Behind The Scenes Of 'Tracker': Justin Hartley Opens Up About The Show's Challenges And Exciting Future

Creating the magic of CBS's drama series Tracker is no easy task. Justin Hartley, who not only stars as Colter Shaw but also serves as an executive producer, recently revealed just how demanding the filming process can be. While playing a character who travels across the U.S. solving missing persons cases sounds thrilling, there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye.

The Challenges of Filming Inside an Airstream

Colter Shaw, the lead character of Tracker, spends much of his time traveling in a sleek silver Airstream, taking viewers on a journey filled with mystery and intrigue. However, the confined space of that Airstream presents its own set of challenges. According to Sioux City Journal, Justin admitted that filming in such a restricted area is "challenging." It’s not just about acting; it’s about making the most out of limited space while keeping the story engaging and dynamic.

A Cast That Thrives in Tight Spaces

Despite the challenges, not everyone on set feels the same way about filming in such a small environment. Fiona Rene, who plays Reenie Greene, expressed her excitement about the unique setting. "It’s been really cool to play in such a small space," she said, highlighting the creativity that comes with working within limitations. It’s this adaptability that makes the show so captivating for audiences.

Life on the Road: The Physical Demands of 'Tracker'

Executive producer Ken Olin described the show as a "roadshow," emphasizing the physical demands placed on the cast and crew. "We’re out on location seven out of eight days shooting. Physically, it’s challenging – particularly for Justin," he explained. Given that Justin appears in 90 percent of the episodes, the physical toll of the role is undeniable. It’s a testament to his dedication and passion for the project that he continues to deliver such powerful performances.

At 48 years old, Justin reflects on the show’s success with gratitude. He credits the team's commitment to quality and the support of the audience for the show's growing popularity. "Everybody’s protecting the baby. And the baby is the show," he said. "There are the viewer gods that we can’t control, but just like anything else, if you put your best foot forward and you surround yourself with the best people, your chances increase." It’s clear that Justin values the collaborative effort that goes into making Tracker a hit.

    What’s Coming Up for 'Tracker'

It’s no surprise that CBS renewed Tracker for a third season while the second season is still airing. Fans can expect plenty of exciting developments, especially when it comes to the Shaw family dynamics. Executive producer Elwood Reid teased more drama involving Colter's sister, played by Melissa Roxburgh. "Colter came from a dysfunctional family," he explained. "He bore the brunt of that … and we’re going to unpeel more stuff with his sister." This promise of deeper exploration into the Shaw family's past is sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats.
