A few days later, James opened up about the first signs of trouble. He noticed changes in his bowel habits during the summer of 2023. At first, he thought it might be something simple, like his diet. “I thought maybe I needed to stop coffee,” he told People. “Or maybe not put cream in the coffee. But when I cut that out and it didn’t improve, I thought, ‘All right, I better get this checked out.’”
That decision led him to a colonoscopy, where the unexpected news came to light. “I felt really good coming out of anesthesia, that I’d finally done it,” James recalled. “Then the gastroenterologist said — in his most pleasant bedside manner — that it was cancer. I think I went into shock.”
