Julie Bowen Teams Up With Hyundai On Teen Driver Safety Campaign

Actress Julie Bowen isn’t holding her breath for her kids to step into the spotlight anytime soon. But she recently found herself collaborating with them on a unique project that had nothing to do with Hollywood. Julie, best known for her role in Modern Family, partnered with Hyundai to launch a social media series emphasizing the importance of teen driver safety. As a mother of three teenage boys—Oliver, John, and Gustav—this initiative hit close to home for the 54-year-old star.

Why Hyundai? And Why Now?

“I don’t even know if Hyundai realized that I already drive one of their cars,” Julie admitted during an interview with First for Women, published on October 27. “I absolutely adore my car—it’s been a reliable part of my daily life. So when they approached me about this partnership, it felt natural. Plus, I have three teenage sons who are either learning to drive or will be soon. It was the perfect opportunity to combine my passion for safety with something that directly impacts my family.”

A Family Affair

What made this partnership extra special was the involvement of her sons. “My kids couldn’t care less about acting,” Julie confessed. “They’ve shown zero interest in following in my footsteps. But when Hyundai suggested they could participate in the project too, they were excited. They thought it’d be cool to learn more about cars and how they work. It was such a fun experience to collaborate with them on something meaningful. Even though they’ll never step onto a movie set, they got a glimpse into my world while focusing on something that matters to them: driving.”

    Raising Safe Drivers

“I’m so grateful my kids take driving seriously,” Julie said. “I constantly remind them, ‘Every driver on the road might as well be drunk or distracted by their phone. You can’t rely on others, so you’ve got to trust your skills and use the tools available to you.’ It’s not just about staying safe yourself; it’s about being aware of everyone else around you.”

Many fans noticed the parallels between Julie’s real-life parenting style and her iconic character, Claire Dunphy, from Modern Family. Both women approach challenges with humor and determination, making tough situations easier to navigate. “People keep telling me I’m just like Claire,” Julie laughed. “And honestly, there’s some truth to that. Parenting is hard, but if you can find the humor in it, you’ll survive.”

    The Funny Side of Parenthood

Julie admitted that parenting isn’t always laugh-out-loud funny. “I used to think, ‘I’m on a comedy show, so surely my kids will think I’m hilarious.’ But nope,” she joked. “Sometimes, you need humor just for yourself. There are moments when I feel like I’m waiting for someone to yell, ‘Cut! This can’t possibly be real!’ Like Claire in Modern Family, you’ve got to laugh at the chaos—or else you’ll lose your mind.”

She added, “I try to adjust my tone so I can be loud without losing my cool. I remind myself to laugh at the little things, even when they drive me crazy. For instance, when my kids leave dirty dishes in the sink for days, I take photos of their socks and underwear scattered around the house instead of yelling. It’s therapeutic and keeps me sane.”
