Good Bones star Mina Starsiak Hawk recently announced the closure of her latest retail venture in Noblesville, Indiana. The store, which opened with much fanfare less than a year ago, has now shuttered its doors, leaving fans and followers surprised and curious about the reasons behind this decision.
Mina Opens Up About the Difficult Choice
In a candid interview with IndyStar published on September 27, Mina, 39, shared her thoughts on the tough decision to close the store. "By the time I had to weigh whether or not to keep it going, it just didn’t make sense financially. We were hemorrhaging money, and it was time to face reality," she revealed. The decision wasn’t easy, especially when you consider the emotional connection she had with the store and its patrons.
Online Presence to Continue
Even though the physical store is shutting down, Mina assured fans that her passion for design and curated products won’t fade. She plans to keep the online shop alive and thriving. “While the store’s closing, I’ll still have my online shop up and running with all the best products I’ve handpicked for you,” Mina reassured her audience.

The Journey Begins Again
Mina first opened her flagship store, Two Chicks District Co., back in 2020 in Indianapolis. It seemed like a perfect start, but by October 2023, she decided to close that location. Mina recounted the experience, saying, “You’d have these incredible people traveling miles just to see the store. They’d express their love and support, but then they’d leave with a $2 keychain. It was hard to sustain the business with that kind of sales pattern.”
Meanwhile, the initial run of Good Bones ended on HGTV in October 2023, after eight seasons with her mom, Karen E. Laine. However, Mina didn’t let that stop her entrepreneurial spirit. In December 2023, she announced plans to open a new store in Noblesville, hoping for a fresh start and better business prospects.
A New Chapter in Noblesville
When Mina decided to set up shop in Noblesville, it wasn’t just a business decision—it was a personal one too. She met with the mayor and local business leaders, discussing the city’s growth plans. “There are so many beautiful Queen Anne Victorians in Noblesville,” Mina told People at the time. “I even had my eye on one near the square that needed some love, which is right up my alley.”
She expressed her admiration for how Noblesville managed its urban development compared to Indianapolis. “They’re really doing it right. Noblesville wants growth and development, and they back it with the right logistics. Indianapolis says they want growth, but when it comes down to it, the system isn’t set up for small businesses like mine,” she explained.
The Bittersweet End
Despite her optimism and the supportive community, the Noblesville store couldn’t turn a profit within the seven months it was open. Mina admitted, “The neighborhood and the people were fantastic. But unfortunately, the business side just wasn’t there to support it. Being in an urban area, it has to be a profitable venture, and that just wasn’t the case.”

On September 25, the store’s Facebook page announced the closure with a heartfelt message: “This weekend marks our last days in Noblesville! District Co will continue online, and I’m super excited about the holiday collection coming soon. But for now, help us clear out the store and grab some amazing deals! I’ll be in and out over the last four days, and I hope to see you all there!”

Renovations and Family Drama
Meanwhile, HGTV aired a special season of Good Bones in August, featuring renovations on Mina’s lake house and Karen’s new home in Wilmington, North Carolina. The season aired amid tensions between Mina and her mom, Karen, and brother, Tad Starsiak. Mina had previously admitted on her podcast that she wasn’t in a good place with her family.
In the special season, Mina and Karen filmed their renovations separately, avoiding any public discussion of their feud. During an episode focusing on her lake house renovation, Mina reflected on her future. “I don’t know what’s next for me. I’m not content to stay where I am now. So, I’m going to slow down and take a moment to figure things out,” she said.
