Sofía Vergara Shines At The 2024 Emmys Despite Missing Out On The Trophy

Sofía Vergara’s Night at the 2024 Emmys: A Heartwarming Story

Let’s talk about the one and only Sofía Vergara. While she didn’t walk away with a trophy at the 2024 Emmys on Sunday, September 15, she certainly left an indelible mark on everyone's hearts. Her wit, charm, and undeniable talent continue to inspire fans across the globe. And let’s be honest, sometimes the real wins are the ones that happen off-screen.

Now, Sofía was up for a major accolade this year—Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Her incredible portrayal of Griselda Blanco in Netflix’s Griselda had everyone buzzing. But alas, the award went to the legendary Jodie Foster for her role in True Detective: Night Country. While it wasn’t her night for hardware, Sofía handled it with grace, humor, and a whole lot of personality.

Backstage Drama: Sofía Vergara’s Hilarious Reaction

As soon as the award category was announced, Sofía took to Instagram to share her raw, unfiltered emotions. In a candid video, she was seen walking backstage, muttering in Spanish, “Me lo robaron … por quinta vez,” which translates to “They stole it from me … for the fifth time.” If you’re familiar with Sofía’s work, you know she’s not one to shy away from expressing herself, and this moment was no different. It’s part of what makes her so relatable and loved by millions.

  • For those keeping score, this marked the fifth time Sofía has been nominated for an Emmy without taking home the coveted golden statue. Four of those nominations came from her iconic role as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in Modern Family from 2010 to 2013. But hey, five nominations in itself is a testament to her incredible talent and lasting impact in the entertainment industry.

Celebrating the Night Away with Heidi Klum

Even without the trophy, Sofía made sure to celebrate the night in style. At the Netflix Emmys Afterparty, she was spotted having a blast alongside her America’s Got Talent co-star, Heidi Klum. The two were inseparable, snapping photos and dancing the night away like there was no tomorrow. Their fabulous outfits and infectious energy lit up the room, proving that sometimes the best memories are made when you let loose and enjoy the moment.

In true Sofía fashion, she even shared a light-hearted moment with her fans. Posting another video on Instagram, she captioned it, “I didn’t get an Emmy but I got a hamburger.” The clip showed her happily munching on a burger at the party. Fans couldn’t help but laugh and relate, with one commenter joking, “Imagine casually being by the Sofía Vergara eating a hamburger.” Another chimed in, “A win is a win! The Emmy would’ve gotten in between you and the burger!”

Red carpet moments? Check. Sofía always knows how to turn heads, and this year was no exception. She dazzled in a stunning red gown with a plunging neckline and a fitted bodice that accentuated her figure perfectly. The dress flared out at the bottom, making her every step feel like a runway moment. It’s no wonder she’s one of the most anticipated arrivals at any event.

Behind the Scenes: The Making of 'Griselda'

Playing Griselda Blanco in Griselda was a major departure from the roles fans are used to seeing Sofía in. It was a challenge she embraced head-on, and it paid off in spades. In an interview with Billboard earlier this year, Sofía opened up about the demanding nature of the role.

“Everything was challenging for me, mainly the first month because I was trying new things,” she explained. “I had never acted in Spanish or a drama or with prosthetics. The three hours of hair and makeup were exhausting … It was a lot of different things. I had to wrap my body so it didn’t look like me.”

  • “One of the toughest scenes was in episode five,” she continued. “It was really hard because Griselda was spiraling down. She was doing drugs, losing her mind a little bit. We were far from home in L.A., sleeping in tiny hotels. It was difficult. And the mood that Griselda was in was exhausting for me. She was killing, screaming, crying. It was a lot.”

Despite the challenges, Sofía was thrilled with the response from viewers. “The people that have watched it now have been so responsive and they’ve been telling me how much they love it. It’s really exciting to see how the people are reacting to it,” she told People in February. “I’m very proud of it.”
