Craig Melvin Gets Emotional During Heartwarming Paris Olympics Moment

There was a touching moment during the coverage of the Paris Olympics when Craig Melvin, one of the anchors of Today, couldn't help but get emotional. In a segment that aired on August 2, Craig, alongside his colleagues Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb, experienced something truly special. While they were all on assignment in Paris, their kids surprised them with heartfelt messages, leaving everyone teary-eyed.

An Unforgettable Surprise for the Anchors

As part of the surprise, Craig's two kids, Delano and Sybil, popped up on the screen to deliver a sweet message. “Hi daddy, we miss you. We love you very much,” they said, their voices filled with love and longing. Following Craig's kids, Hoda’s daughters, Haley and Hope, and Savannah’s children, Vale and Charley, also appeared on screen, sending their own adorable messages to their parents.

Once the video concluded, the camera cut back to the three anchors. Craig was visibly moved, wiping his eyes as he struggled to hold back tears. It was clear just how much the gesture meant to him. Savannah, always quick to notice the emotions in the room, joked, "OK, we’re gonna need some tissues," as Craig continued to try to compose himself.

Hoda chimed in, expressing her excitement about the sweet surprise, saying, "That was so sweet!" Even Savannah was touched, recalling how she had heard the voices of her children earlier but couldn’t quite believe it was them. "You know what’s so funny," she said, "I heard those voices in my ears before we came on and I was like, ‘That sounds like Vale and Charley,’ but then I was just like, it couldn’t be."

The trio took a moment to thank their team for putting together such a thoughtful and heartfelt video. "We want to say thank you to our control room for doing that for us, that was really sweet," Hoda expressed. Craig added, "We love being here, obviously, but we miss you guys," with Savannah agreeing, "Yeah, we miss home, we love them."

Craig Sends Love Back to His Family

At the end of the segment, Craig, who shares his children with his wife Lindsay Czarniak, sent a special message back to his family. "I miss you too guys, love you," he said, blowing a kiss to his loved ones. Despite the distance, it was clear that his heart was with his family.

Though being away from home can be tough, Craig has been enjoying his time covering the Olympics in Paris. "Honored to be in Paris working for @todayshow and @nbcsports covering these @nbcolympics. We’re having a blast so far — great sports, wonderful food, fabulous friendships. So far. So fantastic here in Paris," he shared on Instagram.

Al Roker Joins the Fun in Paris

Craig wasn’t the only one enjoying the Parisian experience. Co-host Al Roker also joined in on the fun, taking a croissant tour of the city with his daughter, Leila Roker, who resides in Paris. Al, who is known for his love of food and travel, has been cherishing this time with his daughter.

"That is the bonus," Al told People. "I mean, that’s the gold medal because she’s lived here almost seven years and she speaks French fluently and so we love Paris to begin with. So it’s a great reason to come." Al's wife, Deborah Roberts, is also in Paris covering the Olympics for ABC, making it a family affair. Their son, Nicholas Roker, joined them, and they’ve been sharing delightful family moments on social media, including a chance encounter with Martha Stewart at a restaurant.
