Karen E. Laine's New Adventure: A Fresh Start in Indiana

Hey there, friends! If you're a fan of Good Bones, you might be curious about what Karen E. Laine has been up to lately. Well, let me tell you—it’s been quite the journey since the show wrapped up its season 8 finale back in October 2023. Karen, who just turned 62, has made some major life changes, including her living situation and career path. Let’s dive in and see what’s going on with this incredible woman!

On January 17, Karen shared a heartfelt video on Instagram that gave us all the details about her latest move. She announced she had purchased a charming little home in Greenfield, Indiana. Surprisingly, she also revealed she had put her newly renovated house in Wilmington, North Carolina, up for sale. This decision definitely caught a lot of fans off guard, but Karen's reasons are as heartfelt as they come.

Reuniting with a Familiar Face

In the video, Karen was joined by none other than Cory Miller, a beloved figure from Good Bones. The two have formed an incredible friendship that goes beyond their time on HGTV. Now, they’re teaming up once again to transform Karen’s new Indiana home into the cozy haven she envisions. It’s always great to see old friends come together for a new project, right?

It’s clear that Karen has a strong network of people who are ready to help her make this new chapter a success.

    Settling Into Her New Space

Karen shared a candid moment in her video, giving us a peek into her new home. “So I bought this house 10 days ago, and I moved half of my stuff here,” she explained. While her new place may not be fully furnished yet, Karen already has the essentials—a bed, a table, and a chair. And of course, her beloved dog and cat have made the move with her. “I got a real job in Greenfield, and I’m working full time, and I need to make this house everything it should be,” she continued. With Cory by her side, Karen is ready to turn this house into the home of her dreams.

    Why the Change?

For those of you who watched the special shortened season of Good Bones in August 2024, you might remember Karen renovating her Wilmington home with the intention of moving there after retirement. She poured her heart and soul into creating a vibrant space that would be a haven for her and her grandkids. However, as life often does, plans shifted. Karen realized that she’d be spending a lot more time traveling between Indiana and North Carolina than she originally anticipated.

“What I thought this house was going to be for me has completely changed,” Karen explained in one episode. “I bought this house to move here, retire here, and live here, but I realized I would miss my family too much. I can’t live away from that, so it’s shifted a little for me to where this is going to be a place I visit with regularity, but maybe I can get some of the grandkids on an airplane and we spend a weekend together and we go to the beach; that would be the best of both worlds.”

When news broke in October 2024 that the Wilmington property was listed for $500,000, per a Zillow listing, fans were understandably shocked. Many took to the comments section of Karen’s Instagram post to ask why she decided to put the house on the market.

“Five grandkids in Indy that weren’t there when I bought the Wilmington house tipped the scales a different direction,” Karen replied. “The Wilmington house is for sale and until it sells, I visit there regularly.”

Another person asked, “What is your full-time job?” to which Karen replied, “Deputy prosecutor.” It’s clear that Karen is embracing this new chapter in her life with open arms, balancing her passion for home renovation with her career in law.
